About Us - The Coachouse Hotel & Restaurant

The Coachouse Hotel, originally built in 1856 for the Duke of Bedford, was sympathetically renovated in 1989. Much of it's charm and character has been retained by the preserving of many old timber beams and the granite open fire in the Lounge.

Hidden amongst rolling farmland on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Ottery, but only two miles from historic Tavistock, birthplace of Sir Francis Drake, The Coachouse is conveniently situated for day trips to any part of Devon or Cornwall.

A warm welcome awaits you upon your arrival at The Coachouse. We provide excellent accommodation and meals in an informal atmosphere where our guests can relax totally and enjoy the peace and tranquility of our rural setting.

There are many National Trust and other historic houses and gardens to visit.

Within a short drive:

Cotehele House and Gardens (5 miles)
Buckland Abbey once home of Sir Francis Drake (6 miles)
Saltram House setting for the film 'Pride & Prejudice' (15 miles)

...to name just a few.

Dartmoor National Park is on our doorstep and worth a visit any time of the year.

The weather in the West Country is much milder than most parts of the UK at this time of year, the scenery from Dartmoor to the coast is still superb and attractions such as the Eden Project and nearby Morwellham Quay are open all year.

The city of Plymouth is only 13 miles from The Coachouse. It has a beautiful shopping centre (ideal for Christmas shopping) and this is within walking distance of Plymouth Hoe (Seafront & Esplanade) and the historic Barbican, now an old fishing port and marina, it was the departure point for the Pilgrim Farther's on their voyage to America.
